Financial Services Skills Council back new financial advice qualification

The Financial Services Skills Council (FSSC) have backed the new Advanced Financial Advice Module (AFAM) being piloted by the ifs School of Finance.

The new qualification is not yet available to all advisers as the ifs School of Finance seek feedback from the experienced professionals undertaking the pilots and the outcome of the FSA’s Retail Distribution Review (RDR) before finalising the content of the course.

However, AFAM will certainly be focusing on analysis, evaluation and the presentation of information - rather than purely testing technical knowledge - addressing a need for the development of a specific competency in the provision of financial advice which is not adequately satisfied by existing qualifications.

Sam Rees-Adams, Director of Education at the FSSC said, “The ability to communicate effectively with clients is a key requirement for financial advisers and we are pleased to see a pilot that has this at its heart.  We congratulate the advisers who have volunteered to take part in the pilot and await its results with interest.”

Mark Roberts, Head of Financial Regulation at the ifs School of Finance, said:

“We are naturally pleased that the FSSC have welcomed the piloting of this qualification.”

The qualification will cover investment, protection and retirement planning as well as taxation and trust solutions. Further information about AFAM can be obtained by calling the ifs School of Finance on 01227 818609.
