CDT help
Some students are currently experiencing problems with the set up of the CD ROM. Please find below some suggestions that may help in the set up of the program.
| Processor | Pentium 2 |
| Speed | 500 MHz |
| Memory | 128 MB Ram |
| Operating system/ Browser | Internet explorer 5.5 or Netscape 4.7 |
| Plugins | Macromedia Flash Player version 5 |
Please ensure that you have tried following the set up instructions given under the heading "Installation" in the inlay booklet. If you are unsuccessful on your first attempt of trying these instructions, please retry.
There is no specific code or login that the user must use. It is up to each candidate to create one. The purpose of asking for a user login on the first screen is that this will then appear on any printed or saved copy of the user's analysis when completing a mock exam. This is particularly relevant where the product is being used over a network and results can be saved to a shared drive. It is not essential that any particular code is entered to run the CDT, anything can be entered in the boxes to move to the next screen and select a test.
The Active X component is the part of the software that enables the saving of mock exam results. Some students using the CDT at their place of work may find they have administrator restrictions that prevent this. This is explained in the Readme.txt file that is contained on the CD and which appears in the folder when the CD is first saved onto the users hard drive.
The CDT is configured to load automatically when the disk is loaded into the CD drive. In some instances the configuration or processing speed of the user's PC may mean that the user has to go into 'My Computer' and open the contents of the CD by clicking on the drive allocated to their CD (usually D). From the files shown the CDT should load by double clicking the Run file.
Other run failures relate to restrictions that have been placed on the PC either by the company's IT administrator or whoever originally loaded software onto and configured the PC. Most such restrictions prevent downloading of files, writing to the hard drive (see Active X) or completely bar software being loaded altogether.
It is not permitted to copy the CD permanently onto a hard drive. If it were, the user could save the CDT to their machine and hand the CD to someone else to use. This is the basis on which all single user licences are sold. Corporates who buy a full networking licence are free to talk directly to Bourne Training about how best to achieve this, given that system and server requirements vary from one company to another.
Pop-ups are a form of advertising that literally 'pop up' when you visit certain websites. As people can find these irritating, some companies have developed Pop-up Blockers which stop this happening. Unfortunately, they can also stop certain programs, such as the ifs School of Finance's CDT's, from loading.
Websites containing Pop-up blockers include the Google and Yahoo toolbars, and other programs that are designed purely to block them. If you have one of these installed, you will need to ensure that you disable it before loading the CDT.
When the Competence Development Tool is run under Windows XP with Service Release 2 (SR2) installed, there may be problems with starting the tool. In this case there should be a message on the Internet Explorer status bar which invites the user to click here … to open the popup window in which the tool runs.
If this is not the case the following workaround can be used.
Manual workaround for cases where only launch window opens.
Note that when you have finished using the CDT, it will need to be closed by clicking File and Close. The Exit button on the Credits Screen will not work.
When either the CeRCC or CeRGI CDT are launched with either Flash 8 or Flash 9 installed, you will only see a white screen. There are two alternative procedures that can be carried out to correct this problem:
