What is the Certificate in Corporate Banking?

The Certificate in Corporate Banking is a specialist qualification designed to equip employees of Bank of Scotland Corporate with a sound understanding of corporate banking and achieve a recognised professional qualification.

Course content

To achieve the Certificate in Corporate Banking, you must complete the following three modules provided by the ifs School of Finance:

In addition, you must also successfully complete the Bank of Scotland Corporate in-house credit courses, the accreditation of which is subject to final approval by the ifs School of Finance.

Entry requirements

You must be a current employee of Bank of Scotland Corporate.

You are required to have a minimum of GCSE grade C or equivalent in English Language and Maths. You must also have a level of proficiency, as exemplified for example by GCSE standard, in ICT. You will need to have Internet and email access throughout your course of study, and to access the online student induction and syllabus.

Qualification level

The Certificate is assessed at first year UK undergraduate degree level.

Study time

You should expect to complete the full Certificate in approximately 12-18 months.

How do I study?

For the Financial Markets and Risk and Corporate, Commercial and Business Lending modules you must follow an approved course of study provided by either ifs distance or flexible learning.

For the Introduction to Banking and Personal Lending module study is home based.

Study support

On registration for Financial Markets and Risk and Corporate, Commercial and Business Lending modules, you will be sent a dedicated set of learning materials.

You will be allocated a subject tutor who will make contact at the beginning of your study. You will also be given access to the ifs Interactive Learning Environment (my ifsILE) for these modules, which includes online versions of the materials, online self-assessment and discussion forums.

On registration for Introduction to Banking and Personal Lending, you will receive a dedicated set of learning materials.

You will be given access to the ifs online library and information service ifs KnowledgeBank for all modules.

Assessment

The Certificate is assessed and awarded by the ifs School of Finance.

Each module is assessed as follows:

Introduction to Banking and Personal Lending is assessed solely by a two-hour objective test delivered electronically.

Corporate, Commercial and Business Lending is assessed by a two-hour objective test delivered electronically and one written coursework assignment.

All assessment components must be passed in order to complete the module.

Cost

Module fees will be met by Bank of Scotland Corporate.

How to register

Download and complete the on-line Registration Form, which is available on the Bank of Scotland Corporate intranet, submitting it to your Line Manager for approval.

Progression

Successful candidates will be awarded a minimum of 60 credits. These can be used towards the ifs Applied Diploma in Corporate Banking, which forms stage 1 of the ifs Foundation Degree in Financial Markets and Management and the ifs BSc (Hons) Degree in Financial Markets and Management/Associateship.
